When Jacob dreamed of a ladder linking earth and heaven, it wasn't to provide man with a means of going to heaven. The ladder brought God to Bethel, "God is in this place!" But where God comes, He makes a difference! At Bethel, God touched Jacob's circumstances, giving him promises and hopes, and in the end, He changed Jacob himself, confirming all that was inherent in the gift of the new name, Israel.
