Isa 42:3 "A bruised reed He will not break, And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice. A bruised reed is a Hebrew way of referring to someone who is discouraged. A dimly burning wick (smoking flax) is someone who has failed, totally exhausted, totally burned out. Jesus is not embarrassed by you! How many times did he meet with people in trouble and say "be of good cheer" or "take courage" or "be confident". Jesus moved with compassion on people whose belief system has left them wiped out and he says "Come unto Me!"

This teaching is from 1 John chapter 5. What are God's commandments for believers? Why are his commandments not burdensome? What is the "sin unto death"? Here's what I want us all to see. We are on a path that is unstoppable. We have a destiny, that is, he who began a good work in us is going to carry us on to completion. The only thing that slows it down in the slightest is us trying to make it happen and not cooperating with the Holy Spirit.

People are on a search for the ultimate formula to prop up their current belief system. What's the foundation of my life? What do I believe about the finished work of Christ? What's my belief system? We live in an age when people don't really have a belief system. Their belief system is sort of a "zapping". They come forward every week and hope to get "zapped" to get "right" with God. If you find yourself getting burned out and exhausted, we have to face it, there must be something wrong with our belief system. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. If I'm understanding the Gospel, I'm beyond burnout!

This teaching is from 1 John chapter 4. He tells us to "try the spirits". What's John talking about? Are believers supposed to cast out demons from other believers? Chapter 4 gives us a little bit of insight to questions like this. Is WWJD how we are supposed to live our lives? Do we "live for" Jesus or "live FROM" Jesus? Perfect love cast out fear. If you are living in fear it's because your fear involves punishment. The one who fears is not perfected in love.

The wrath of God is not God's temper flying off the handle. The wrath of God is the set of his nature. God does not have love he is love. By the same token, God does not have wrath, it's not something he suddenly gets. Wrath is the set of his nature. Wrath is part of his goodness. God would not be good if he was not angry at sin that would destroy his creation.

We talk about our identity in Christ. It's a very trendy topic and you can find many books written on the subject. We say it but we really don't believe it. This is how the gospel that is so incredible, so awesome, gets cut in half, watered down and becomes powerless. We make God a double talker which means he doesn't really mean what he says. "Beloved, now are we the Son's of God!"

Our society is in a state of total moral collapse. There is a total breakdown of the concept of family. Kids get over 40 hours of life instructions and influence from TV, movies, and video games. There is no concept of human life having any value therefore we have this epidemic of violence in our land. It's becoming a warzone. Americans have become humanistic, materialistic and secular. How do we as believers live in a world like this? Hang around!

John writes because he wants us to awaken our spiritual senses to the reality of what we have. There is an abiding and there is an anointing. The anointing is Christ himself and he lives in every believer. We also have the abiding of God's presence.

Paul tells the Philippians their citizenship is in heaven. Rome had granted the citizens of Philippi Roman citizenship as a free gift. That meant that the city of Philippi was an out post of Rome. Paul is telling these Christians your citizenship is in heaven. You are where heaven and earth come together. You are an outpost of heaven even as Philippi was an outpost of Rome.

God told Joshua to be strong and of good courage. If we are not courageous then we will see ourselves as a victim. Victim is a mental thing, it's a way in which you perceive yourself. Being a victim leads to envy which leads to entitlement. The end result is slavery. Entitlement is the cancer that is eating America.
