1 John Part 1

1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins that he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The only problem with that is, what about all the 10's of thousands of sins that you've forgotten to confess. Are you forgiven of those as well? You can find many verses that say that our sin has already been forgiven and you have already been cleansed and made perfect by one offering once for all. Yet it says, "if we confess our sins". What is going on here?

This is from the prophet Isaiah chapters 10 and 11. This might shock some people but this is the picture Isaiah paints in these chapters. It looks as though Assyria, the Godless nation, is running on the loose. Isaiah says don't believe it. He says Assyria is just the axe in the hand of God. If you want to know peace in this crazy world, read the prophets and dare to believe them. Even when things look like tragedy, God has got his hand on it. Don't worry, he knows what he is doing!

What is blasphemy according to scriptures? What does it really mean "if we sin willfully"? We will be looking at these verses in light of the Epistle of Hebrews. What is it that makes you right with God? Is it anything other than the blood of Christ? Is your dependence on the finished work of Christ or on some other form of law? What is it that makes you feel ok with God?

The Church is not only a community of love, but out of that love comes "hope". A hope that is of such a nature that it stuns the world. Hope in the bible is this most intense personal energy that reaches into God's future. It's always a word that is going forward to the point where it says the past is gone in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus is called the Hope of Israel and he is saying that we can participate in his hope. Jesus is the "Hope" and he lives in you.

I must decrease and he must increase. Have you ever heard that? Have you tried to decrease? Is that what John was talking about? Have you really been made righteous or did God "fix the books"? Is it all of Jesus and none of you, or is it all of him and all of you in a beautiful union together?

Jesus says to his church to love one another even as I have loved you. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples. God gives the world permission to come and exam the church, to see this love, this same love. Then and only then, can you know they are my disciples. The problem is we try to have God's love for us do a "U" turn. It's like trying to push the water back up the water hose. We get very high on saying how much we love Jesus. That's included, but love must have a reaching out. So Jesus gives us the parable of the "Good Samaritan".

Our study today is from Romans 6. Is it possible that you have a beautiful, obedient and righteous heart and don't even know it? In Romans 6 we have been invited to count on one more truth and it's huge. The enemy is happy to hide it from you and alloy you to enjoy "puny grace". What I am teaching you is powerful grace and not "puny grace". This is radical and extraordinary, you really are dead to sin through the cross of Jesus Christ.

We stand in days of trial and tribulation. When the entire world system is in a state of collapse, what do you do? Where ever the kingdom of God is there you will have tribulation sooner or later. We are in the midst of tribulation. It's the testing of your faith. Under the testing of your faith, all the mask, all the religion, pretense drops away. You are left with the bottom line. What is the bottom line? God Is Love!

Are new covenant believers required to keep a Sabbath day? Many believe that unless you are keeping a Sabbath day, refraining from work, that you are not pleasing God and not being obedient to the Lord. Should you tithe ten percent to please God? Is tithing a matter of Jewish law? Why did Abraham pay tithes to Melchizedec? Grace giving has nothing to do with the tithe.

No More Issues

We've all got issues. It seems we move from one issue to another. Is this the way it's supposed to be? What's going on here or is it just me? How do we handle these issues? Paul says he takes pleasure in infirmities, reproaches, persecutions for Christ's sake, for when I am weak then am I strong. His grace is sufficient. We will be looking at Psalms 61, 62, and 63 and see how David handle his issues. Bottom line is, you don't have issues, we have places for God to fill!
