Jacob Great Expectations Part 5

Genesis 48:15  These are the last hours of the life of Jacob. He's called his favorite son Joseph and he is blessing him. In blessing Joseph he describes to Joseph via his prayer all that God has been to him in his life. Strong Brother Weak Brother

  Romans 14, This is a very dangerous chapter to give an explanation of. It's talking about two kinds of people. The strong and they despise the weak and the weak are horrified with the strong. How can these two peoples live together and grow together as Jesus prayed in John 17, that they be one? Both the strong and the weak have their set of problems. The kingdom of heaven is not meat and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Jacob Great Expectations Part 4

  Jacob wrestled. Jacob's entire life was in that night, wrestling strength against strength. Jacob gets a new name, Israel. Jacob won by loosing. Now he will be forever weak, no longer will he go about seeking to get his way. He'll walk limping. Remember this, all of God's strong people walk with a limp. Jacob Great Expectations Part 3

Jacob had the blessing but he lacked the faith to walk in it. He instead tried to earn it and buy it. Faith is ceasing from my own works. It means I'm abandoned to him who is my strength. Faith rest helplessly in his strength. But we have an incredible resource of strength in ourselves and we are often lured back. We have such an expectation of ourselves that we think that next time we'll do better. We want to show God how much we love him. How to Hear the Voice of God Part 6

  How do you know if it's God or not? When you hear that flow within you, how do you know that flow is God? How do you know the voice of the flesh? The voice of the flesh always comes across as a bully, always pressing, urgent, must. It always has the potential for anxiety and fear. It's heavy and always follows the pathway of reason. It always has the potential for condemning, shaming and self hating. There is a flow within of the flesh which is self loathing, you feel worthless. It erupts from your unhealed self and the New Testament calls it the "flesh". That is the self for itself that is still trying to gain supreme position within you and pretend it's the real you. You never feel blessed after you hear it, you never feel peace or lightness of joy. It's heavy, it brings you down, it brings despair and darkness.    If I don't have a word from God and I'm trying to make it happen by repeating scripture over and over, that just produces anxiety and it drains my peace and leaves me in a state of confusion.   We have given our imagination over to something that's childish, given it over to fantasies. We don't think we have any control over it. The idea of giving our imagination to the Holy Spirit, should he want to use it. Recognizing it is part of this whole person that we are in Christ so that he can use it to flash his pictures in. God speaks in pictures. Abraham went through the rest of his life, every time he looked at the stars above and the sand on his feet he heard the words, "So shall your descendants be."
