1 John Part 4

September 25th, 2020

John writes because he wants us to awaken our spiritual senses to the reality of what we have. There is an abiding and there is an anointing. The anointing is Christ himself and he lives in every believer. We also have the abiding of God's presence.

Living in Unstable Times Part 6

Paul tells the Philippians their citizenship is in heaven. Rome had granted the citizens of Philippi Roman citizenship as a free gift. That meant that the city of Philippi was an out post of Rome. Paul is telling these Christians your citizenship is in heaven. You are where heaven and earth come together. You are an outpost of heaven even as Philippi was an outpost of Rome.

Living in Unstable Times Part 5

God told Joshua to be strong and of good courage. If we are not courageous then we will see ourselves as a victim. Victim is a mental thing, it's a way in which you perceive yourself. Being a victim leads to envy which leads to entitlement. The end result is slavery. Entitlement is the cancer that is eating America.

1 John Part 2

September 10th, 2020

1 John is about love. He keeps going back to the importance, the centrality of loving one another. This is how they will know that you are my disciples, if we love each other. Jesus said that the works I do you shall do also and greater works. Where are the greater works? What is the greater works? Is love more important to God than raising the dead?

Living in Unstable Times Part 4

September 9th, 2020

In Isaiah chapters 7, 8 and 9, there is an impending invasion. A league has been made with the northern tribes of Israel and Syria. They plan on attacking Jerusalem and getting rid of the King of Judah and wiping out the people. Great fear is gripping the people. The prophet Isaiah himself gets caught up in the conspiracy. See how the Lord deals with Isaiah and gives hope and commands us not to fear.

1 John Part 1

September 3rd, 2020

1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins that he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The only problem with that is, what about all the 10's of thousands of sins that you've forgotten to confess. Are you forgiven of those as well? You can find many verses that say that our sin has already been forgiven and you have already been cleansed and made perfect by one offering once for all. Yet it says, "if we confess our sins". What is going on here?

God the Lumberjack

September 1st, 2020

This is from the prophet Isaiah chapters 10 and 11. This might shock some people but this is the picture Isaiah paints in these chapters. It looks as though Assyria, the Godless nation, is running on the loose. Isaiah says don't believe it. He says Assyria is just the axe in the hand of God. If you want to know peace in this crazy world, read the prophets and dare to believe them. Even when things look like tragedy, God has got his hand on it. Don't worry, he knows what he is doing!

You Shall Know the Truth Part 16

August 27th, 2020

What is blasphemy according to scriptures? What does it really mean "if we sin willfully"? We will be looking at these verses in light of the Epistle of Hebrews. What is it that makes you right with God? Is it anything other than the blood of Christ? Is your dependence on the finished work of Christ or on some other form of law? What is it that makes you feel ok with God?

Living in Unstable Times Part 3

The Church is not only a community of love, but out of that love comes "hope". A hope that is of such a nature that it stuns the world. Hope in the bible is this most intense personal energy that reaches into God's future. It's always a word that is going forward to the point where it says the past is gone in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus is called the Hope of Israel and he is saying that we can participate in his hope. Jesus is the "Hope" and he lives in you.

You Shall Know the Truth Part 15

August 20th, 2020

I must decrease and he must increase. Have you ever heard that? Have you tried to decrease? Is that what John was talking about? Have you really been made righteous or did God "fix the books"? Is it all of Jesus and none of you, or is it all of him and all of you in a beautiful union together?
