Why did God wait so long to send Jesus? For the simple reason that sin did more than we think. Sin so fractured man's understanding of God, so blinded us and plunged us into such darkness, far more than we are willing to admit. If God had just come on and declared his Holiness in Christ, man would never had heard him or seen him or received anything. So God gave us the law (what we are now studying) and the law was a schoolmaster to lead us to Christ.

Without a solid foundation faith becomes nothing more than pathetic presumption, a faith in faith which is a leap into meaninglessness. Biblical faith is a response to something God has done. God lays the foundation, takes the initiative, and faith is but man’s response to that. That foundation is the blood covenant. What is a covenant? Who is the covenant made with? What are the terms of the covenant? How is the covenant kept? How are we partakers of the “new” covenant? From such a posture, we shall go on to grow in grace and in the true knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In this study we look at the meal offering and the peace offering which is also called the sacrifice of praise. Always understand, in the mind of a Hebrew who stood before that altar, when the flesh of the animal was put on that altar, that altar was looked upon as the table of the Lord. They looked upon the altar that God is now going to receive the offering. As they saw the smoke going up, then it was by symbol, understood that God has received my offering.

The prophet Habakkuk has a very interesting conversation with the Lord. The conclusion being "the just shall live by faith". Habakkuk didn't quite understand it but his thoughts on the matter are very fitting, especially for the time we are in. Hab 3:17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

Elijah was burned out. I love that God always tells the truth about his hero's. Elijah the great prophet had burned out. Nobody would have expected it. God records it so we can know how to come out of it and how God walks with us through it.

This is a closer study on the Burnt Offering. We will see what kind of animals could be used and what happened to the animal once the offeror presented it to the priest. In discovering what happened to the animal we discover how Jesus, in his final burnt offering, gave himself away to God. What does it all mean? Why was it cut in pieces? When Jesus said "It is Finished", every animal that had ever been sacrificed founds it's finish in the body of Jesus Christ. Once Jesus had died on the cross, every other offering made was an abomination which brought about the desolation of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. Never again, with the blessing of God, will offerings be made in Jerusalem because every offering has been fulfilled in Christ Jesus. The American church has attempted to set up another altar in the front of the church building where sinners can come and believers can come and "do something" for God. Nothing with spot or blemish was allowed to touch the Jewish altar. Jesus never gave an altar call. The apostles never gave altar calls. It didn't start until 1830. Jesus said "Come unto Me". Christ is not down in the front of the church. The fountain of life is Christ himself and he lives in the believer.

At the heart of spiritual burnout is the misconception of the character of God. If I don't understand the character of God, then I've misunderstood the heart of the gospel. I want us to look at the character of God specifically as Jesus unfolded that character. We don't know what the Father is really like until I meet with Jesus. Luke 15 is one of the greatest chapters that describe what the Father is really like. This is not a story of the prodigal son but the story of the love of his Father.

Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. The offerings show us how the Israelite would communicate with God. He would choose his offering specifically to say that. All the offerings see there fulfillment in Jesus. When I want to say any of those things to God, I recognize that they have been said for me once and for all in Christ. All the conversations they had with God went through the offerings. When the blood was shed, it was as if the blood was speaking. The idea was that where ever the blood has gone, I now may go. Where ever there was blood, man had a legal right to stand in God's presence. Paul says "Let us come boldly to the throne of grace".

Isa 42:3 "A bruised reed He will not break, And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice. A bruised reed is a Hebrew way of referring to someone who is discouraged. A dimly burning wick (smoking flax) is someone who has failed, totally exhausted, totally burned out. Jesus is not embarrassed by you! How many times did he meet with people in trouble and say "be of good cheer" or "take courage" or "be confident". Jesus moved with compassion on people whose belief system has left them wiped out and he says "Come unto Me!"

This teaching is from 1 John chapter 5. What are God's commandments for believers? Why are his commandments not burdensome? What is the "sin unto death"? Here's what I want us all to see. We are on a path that is unstoppable. We have a destiny, that is, he who began a good work in us is going to carry us on to completion. The only thing that slows it down in the slightest is us trying to make it happen and not cooperating with the Holy Spirit.
